Diamond buying guide

For many people, a diamond is the largest purchase of their life. With that consideration,Ratna Jyoti. recognizes the importance of understanding exactly what you are buying. This guide simplifies the four Cs - cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight, as well as diamond shapes and certifications. After reading this guide, you will be better prepared to choose the diamond that is right for you.

Cut

The Cut is a measure of proportions of the diamond. A well-cut diamond appears brilliant and fiery, while a badly cut diamond looks dull and lifeless, despite having a good colour and clarity grade. The Cut is a set of measurements based on how light travels within the diamond and exits from the top. The Cut is the only man-made C of the 4C s. (More)

Colour

The colour of a diamond is evaluated in terms of its degree of colourlessness. The ideal diamond is completely colourless, and the most expensive. However, most diamonds which appear colourless actually have slight tones of yellow or brown. (More)

Diamond Clarity
Clarity is a measure of the cleanliness or purity of a diamond. A diamonds clarity rating is determined by the number, size, type and location of inclusions under 10 x magnifications. (More)

Clarity describes the absence or presence of included crystals, voids, cracks, fissures, etc. which might be present in a diamond; observable by a trained individual with normal eyesight while using a 10X loupe. The size, location, distraction and number of the characteristics are compared to a set of established industry standards.

Carat

Carat Weight- is simply the weight of the diamond. The Carat weight of a diamond determines the size, and appearance of your ring or jewellery. (More)

1. 1 CARAT = 200 MILIGRAM
2. 1 CENT = 2 MILIGRAM
3. 100 CENT = 1 CARAT
4. 25 CENT = 1 GREN
5. 1 RATI = 182 MILIGRAM
6. 1 CARAT = 100 CENT
7. 5 CARAT = 1 GRAM
8. 5 CARAT = 5.5 RATI (AVARAGE)
9. 64 RATI = 1 TOLA / BHARI

Does it match your politics?

Diamonds mined in war zones and sold through illegal channels are sometimes called conflict diamonds, or blood diamonds, with the profits going toward buying arms and funding insurgencies. The illegal trade often involves kidnappings, child soldiers, massacres and other atrocities. The diamond industry promotes strategies to avoid contributing to these activities, but the overall success of the industrys efforts cannot be precisely determined.

Some consumers look for better assurance that they are not supporting the underground diamond market. Diamonds mined in Many Place of world, such as the Ratnajyoti  brand, are advertised as politically clean. Note that this brand says nothing about the market value of the diamond; valuation still depends on the stone's intrinsic qualities

Is the diamond treated?

Some manufacturers are proud to produce a great-looking gem at a very affordable price. They accomplish this by subjecting a diamond to treatments or enhancements to improve a gems apparent clarity or color, thus making the gem more marketable.

Yehuda diamonds, for example, are clarity enhanced. The propriety Yehuda process conceals natural flaws (by fracture filling) and makes the gem more visually appealing.

Bellataire uses HPHT (high pressure and high temperature) to improve the color of a diamond, producing a deeper or richer color. Their advertising characterizes the treatment as restoring the gem to its intrinsic beauty.

For companies like these, gem enhancement is part of their marketing strategy. However, insurers should be aware that in many other cases the presence of treatments is concealed (whether fraudulently or out of ignorance) at the point of sale. Or, by the time the gem reaches the agent's desk, the descriptive material that was part of the sale has been lost (or lost).

Because treated gems are valued at considerably less than untreated ones of similar appearance, you want to be sure of the quality of the gem you are insuring. Be certain the appraisal either states that the diamond is untreated or clearly lists the treatments.

Is it natural or synthesized?

Synthesized, or lab-made, gems are as real  as their mined counterparts. Chatham, which produces quality diamonds and other gems, says "Chatham does not make gemstones, we control environments in which crystals grow naturally .

Synthesized diamonds have the same physical and optical properties as mined (or natural ) diamonds. Because they are grown under precise conditions, they typically have fewer flaws and inclusions than diamonds that come from the ground, though cut sizes are usually under one carat. Because they are currently worth less in the marketplace, it is important to recognize the brand names of cultured, or lab-grown, diamonds.

The Difference Between Created Diamonds and Earth Mined:---

The primary differences between created diamonds and natural diamonds are price and environmental impact. While lab diamonds are identical to earth mined diamonds; same timeless beauty, fire, brilliance, unique colors, hardness and quality; purchasing a created diamond can be easy on the wallet and the environment.
The stress on the eco-systems from earth mining diamonds is pretty harsh and diamond mining in reality is an expensive and a dangerous process. These factors are reflected in the price tag of the earth mined stones.
The biggest benefit of the created diamond lies in this price factor differential. A lab created diamond is usually less expensive compared to a mined colored diamond. In fact, a one carat earth-mined diamond can cost thousands of dollars while a created diamond of the same size and weight can be found at a fraction of the cost.
What’s also interesting is that it would take a certified jeweler to detect that these lab diamonds have not been harvested from the earth. Even then, the experts find it difficult to detect because created diamonds are identical gemologically. What this means is that the created diamonds are certified to be chemically and optically identical to their earth mined counterparts.
In addition to being able to obtain a created diamond for a fraction of the price, the creation of a lab diamond does not harm humans, animals, or the precious environment. Another great advantage of created diamonds is that they can be cut even more proportionally, as compared to the mined gems. Only ten to fifteen percent of natural diamonds achieve the ideal cutting proportion whereas man made diamonds can almost always be cut proportionally.
Earth mined diamonds are also hard to find without a flaw. The more flaws the lower the price and the less desirable to the human eye. It is quite common to find mined diamonds with defects and inclusions. While many diamonds can be cut to can disguise some of the flaws, some are too apparent to hide. On the other hand, lab diamonds are nearly flawless to completely flawless due to the precise processing and the ability to control the growth of the diamonds in a laboratory setting.
Thanks to the marvels of modern science and cutting edge technology, now you can afford to buy flawless, man made diamonds at a fraction of the price and do so confidently knowing your purchase will be eco-friendly.
